DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Akagera national park
On arrival at Kigali international airport, you will meet your guide. After, head to Kigali city for a city tour where you will visit Kigali genocide memorial, local markets and artisan shops. After the city tour, proceed with the journey to akagera national park. on arrival, you will check into the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Morning game drive and boat cruise
After breakfast, enjoy a morning game drive in the northern plains of akagera. While on the game drive look out for lions, leopards, antelope species and various birdlife. After the game drive, return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, take a peaceful boat safari on lake Ihema. While on the boat cruise, you will spot hippos and crocodiles thrive as well as birds. After the boat cruise, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe forest national park
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on the journey to nyungwe national park south of Rwanda. Pass tea plantations, rolling hills and local villages. On arrival, check into the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk
Early in the morning after breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing, you will enter into the forest in search of the chimpanzees. Once the chimpanzees are located, you will spend an hour with them as you learn their habits in the forest. After the trekking, you will return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, enjoy a canopy walk on a 60-meter-high suspension bridge that offers amazing views of the treetops and birdlife. After the walk, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Transfer to volcanoes national park
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on a scenic drive towards the volcanoes national park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas. The journey offers post card worthy views of the Virunga volcanoes and rural life. On arrival, you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight stay,
Day 6: Gorilla trekking
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. After the briefing, hike through the bamboo forest and steep terrain to meet one of the gorilla families. Once the family is located, you will spend an hour with these majestic gorillas as you learn their feeding patterns, breastfeeding, watch them play and how they nurture their young ones. After the trekking, return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Transfer to Kigali and departure
Wake up at leisure, have breakfast and embark on the journey back to Kigali. Depending on your flight time, you will have a brief tour to the local craft shops or market to have the last-minute shopping. After, you will be dropped off at the international airport for your flight back home.
