DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival and city tour
Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be welcomed by your safari guide who will brief you about the safari. You will then embark on a city tour of Kigali where you will visit the Kigali genocide memorial. Kimironko local market and craft shops as well as art galleries. After proceed to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe forest national park
After breakfast, check out of the hotel and depart Kigali for the majestic Nyungwe forest in southwestern Rwanda. You will enjoy scenic views of the rolling hills and make a stopover at the king’s palace in Nyanza and ethnographic Museum in Huye. On arrival, check into the lodge for a relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk
In the morning after breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing, head into the forest in search of the chimpanzees with the help of an experienced guide. Once the chimpanzees are located, you will spend an hour with them. After, you will return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will embark on the canopy walk which is 70-meter-long suspension bridge over the forest canopy and this offers spectacular views of the treetops, birds and monkeys. After, return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Transfer to lake Kivu
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on a scenic drive to lake Kivu which is Rwanda’s largest fresh water lake. On arrival, you will check in the lodge for lunch. You will spend the afternoon relaxing by the lakeside.
Day 5: Transfer to volcanoes national park
After a leisurely breakfast by the lake, embark on a drive to volcanoes national a home to the famous mountain gorillas. Pass through lush countryside and picturesque villages. On arrival, check into the lodge and prepare for the next day activities.
Day 6: Gorilla trekking experience
In the morning after breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing, you will be led by rangers into the rainforest to track a habituated gorilla family. once the gorillas are located, you will spend an hour with the gorillas as you learn their behaviours, watch them play, feed and breastfeed. After the trekking, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Transfer to Akagera national park and evening game drives
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on the journey to Akagera national park. on arrival check in the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, head out for a sunset game drive where you will spot animals like elephants, giraffes, antelopes and lions among others. After the game drive, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Boat cruise and transfer to Kigali
In the morning, start your day with a peaceful boat cruise on lake Ihema where you will encounter hippos, crocodiles and variety of bird species. After the cruise, embark on the return journey to Kigali. On arrival, you will be dropped off at the international airport for your flight back home.
