DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to akagera national park
Meet your driver guide at Kigali international airport and begin your journey east towards Akagera national park Rwanda’s only savannah national park. on arrival, check into the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay
Day 2: Morning game drive and boat cruise
Have an early morning breakfast and head out to the park for a game viewing. Explore the northern plains where you will encounter elephants, buffalos, zebras, giraffes, lions, leopards and many more. After, return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise on lake Ihema where you will spot aquatic animals such as hippos, crocodiles and a variety of bird species. After the boat cruise, return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to volcanoes national park
After morning breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on the journey to volcanoes national park with enroute lunch. On arrival, check into the lodge for a relaxation and prepare for the next day activities.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking
Early in the morning after breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing, hike through the forest to find the habituated family with the help of the park ranger. Once the gorillas are located, you will spend an hour observing them in their natural habitat as you take photos and record videos. After the trekking, return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Mount Bisoke hike
After breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for the briefing. After the briefing, begin your guided mount hike with the help of park rangers. The trail winds through dense forest and bamboo zones to a beautiful crater lake at the summit. The round trip takes 5-7 hours depending on the pace of the hikers and trail conditions. While at the top, you will enjoy the views of the crater lake and also sight the border with the democratic republic of Congo, take pictures and eat some snacks before you descend. After descend and return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Hike to Dian Fossey grave and visit to Iby’iwacu cultural village
After breakfast, set out for a hike to Dian Fossey grave where you will spend 2 hours learning about the famous gorilla lady with artifacts that belonged to her. You will as well learn about her legacy in gorilla conservation. After the hike, you will return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, visit the iby’iwacu cultural village where you will engage with Rwanda’s traditional music, dance and lifestyle. After the visit return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Transfer back to Kigali and departure
Wake up at leisure, check out of the lodge and embark on the journey back to Kigali. Depending on the time of the flight, you may have a brief city tour where you will visit Kigali genocide memorial, kimironko market and local craft shops. After, you will be dropped off at the international airport for your flight back home.
