DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to volcanoes national park
Arrive at Kigali international airport where you will meet the safari guide. Enjoy a brief Kigali city where you will visit the Kigali genocide, kimironko market and local craft markets. After the city tour, you will proceed with the journey to volcanoes national park. On arrival, check into the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking
After an early breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for a briefing from your expert ranger guide. After the briefing, head into the forest in search of the gorillas. Once the gorillas are located, you will spend an hour with them observing their behaviours within the forest. After the trek, you will return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and Ibyiwacu cultural experience
In the morning after breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing, you will head into the forest in search of these species. Once the golden monkeys are located, you will spend an hour with these primates.
In the afternoon, visit the Ibyiwacu cultural village for a vibrant insight into the traditions, music, dance and way of life of the local communities living near volcanoes national park. After the visit, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Transfer to Akagera national park
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on the journey to Akagera national park. The scenic drive reveals Rwanda’s iconic terraced hills, rural villages and lush plantations. On arrival, you will check into the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Morning game drive and boat cruise
In the morning, you will head into the park for a thrilling game drive. While on the game drive, you will spot animals like elephants, buffalos, giraffes, zebras, lions and rhinos. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon enjoy a peaceful boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you will spot hippos wallowing, crocodiles sunbathing and abundant birdlife along the shoreline. After the boat cruise, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Morning game drive and transfer back to Kigali
In the morning after the game drive, you will head into the park for a final game drive. This offers you an opportunity to spot animals that you might have missed out on the earlier game drives. After the game drive, you will proceed with the journey to Kigali. On arrival, you will be dropped to Kigali international airport for your flight back home.
