DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to volcanoes national park
Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your professional driver guide. Depending on your arrival time, enjoy a brief Kigali city tour where you will visit the Kigali genocide memorial or local craft shops. Afterwards, drive north through Rwanda’s famous green hills to volcanoes national park. Check in at your lodge and relax as you prepare for your next day activity.
Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking
After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing, venture into the rainforest with an expert ranger and trekkers to locate a habituated gorilla family. Once the gorillas are located, you will spend an hour observing these giants in their natural habitat. After return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and Ibyiwacu cultural visit
After breakfast, return to the park headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing, hike into the bamboo forests to find these endangered primates leaping through the trees. Once they are located, you will spend an hour with them as you watch them jump from one tree to another. After, you will return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, visit the Ibyiwacu cultural village for a deep dive into the traditions, dances and everyday life of the local communities living around the park. After return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Transfer to Akagera national park
After breakfast, check out and begin your scenic transfer southeast to Akagera national park which is Rwanda’s only savannah park and home to big five. On arrival, check into the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon enjoy a game drive where you will spot wildlife species such as giraffes, zebras and antelopes. After return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Morning game drive and boat cruise
After an early breakfast, head out for a morning game drive through Akagera’s diverse habitats. Look out for elephants, buffalos, giraffes, zebras and antelopes among others. After, return to the lodge for a relaxation and lunch.
In the afternoon enjoy an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema. You will spot hippos, crocodiles and a variety of water birds such as African fish eagles and kingfishers. After the cruise, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Morning game drive and transfer to Kigali
In the morning, you will head out to the park for a game drive. This offers an opportunity to spot animals that you missed in the previous game drive. After, return to the lodge for lunch and then check out and embark on the journey to Kigali. On arrival, you will be dropped off at Entebbe international airport.
