DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: arrival and transfer to akagera national park
Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be welcomed by our professional Rwanda safari driver guide. After a short briefing, begin 2-3 hours’ drive to akagera national park. enroute enjoy views of the rolling Rwandan hills and rural villages. On arrival, check into the lodge enjoy a relaxing lunch and enjoy the evening at the hotel.
Day 2: Full day game drives
After an early breakfast, set off for a full day game drive through the parks northern sector considered the most wildlife rich region of Akagera. This area offers fantastic sightings of the big five such as lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards and buffaloes.
You will encounter herds of zebras, giraffes, Topis, hippos and many more. Stop at designated picnic spots for a bush lunch while taking in the sweeping savannah views. Day 3: Morning game drive and boat cruise
Wake up for an early morning game drive, ideal for spotting predators such as lions and hyenas before they retreat for the day. In the afternoon enjoy a boat cruise on lake Ihema. This is the highlight of your African vacation safari offering close encounters with hippos, crocodiles and a variety of aquatic birds including African fish eagles, kingfishers and cormorants. After the boat cruise, return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Bird watching and visit to coffee tea plantation
Start the day with a guided birdwatching walk along the park’s wetland edges and forested trails. Akagera is a haven for bird lovers with over 500 species including the rare shoebill stork, papyrus gonolek and jacanas thus making this birder dream African safari. After the morning adventure, you will return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, enjoy a visit to a nearby coffee or tea plantation. Learn about Rwanda’s world-famous coffee growing traditions, interact with local farmers and enjoy a fresh cup of locally grown coffee or tea while admiring the surrounding hills. After the visit, return to the lodge for dinner and night stay.
Day 5: Morning game drive and departure
Enjoy a final morning game drive to wrap up your wildlife experience. It’s the last chance to spot any species you may have missed and soak in the sights and sounds of the African wilderness one more time. After, you will drive back to Kigali with a stop at roadside markets or viewpoints. On arrival, you will be dropped off at the airport for your flight back home.
