DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Transfer to akagera national park
On arrival at the international airport, you will be welcomed by our professional safari guide. After a short briefing, you will embark on the journey to Kigali for a city tour where you will visit places like Kigali genocide memorial, kimironko market and art craft shops. After the visit, you will proceed with the journey to akagera national park. on arrival, you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Morning game drive and boat cruise
In the morning, have early breakfast and head into the forest for a morning game drive through the northern plains which is the best region for spotting large mammals including elephants, rhinos, lions and leopards. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch.
After lunch in the afternoon, you will enjoy a scenic boat cruise on lake Ihema which is a home to hippos, crocodiles and many bird species. After the boat cruise, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to volcanoes
After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and embark on the journey to volcanoes national park in the northwestern part of Rwanda. On arrival, you will check into the lodge for a relaxation.
In the afternoon, you will visit the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera. You will have a nature walk and later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking
After an early morning breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing by the park rangers. After the briefing, you will hike through the misty forested slopes of the Virunga mountains. Once the gorillas are located, you will spend 1 hour observing them in their natural habitat as you learn their feeding patterns, breastfeeding, nurturing their young ones and how they relate with one another. After the trekking, you will return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Visit the iby’iwacu cultural village and departure
After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and embark on the visit to the iby’iwacu cultural village for a traditional Rwanda dances and culture. You will engage in activities such as banana beer making, participate in local dances, drama and storytelling. After the visit, you will proceed with the journey to Kigali. On arrival, you will be dropped at the airport for your flight back home.
