DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Transfer to akagera national park and afternoon game drive
The driver guide will pick you from your hotel or the airport in Kigali and brief you on your safari. After, depart for akagera national park and the drive takes 2-3hours. On arrival, you will check into the lodge and have lunch.
In the afternoon, head out for a game drive. Explore the southern part of the park keeping an eye out for giraffes, zebras, antelopes and elephants. After the game drive, drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Morning game drive and lake ihema boat cruise
After breakfast, you will head into the national park for an early morning game drive through the northern plains the best place to spot the big five including lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, buffaloes and many more species. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will head to lake ihema for a boat cruise. Enjoy sightings like hippos, crocodiles and various water birds such as African fish eagles and kingfishers.
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe forest national park
In the morning after breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and embark on a long scenic drive to Nyungwe national park in the southwest. The drive takes 6-7 hours with a stop over for lunch and a visit to the national museum in Butare. On arrival, you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk
Wake up early for a short drive to the park headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing, you will enter into the forest in search of the chimpanzees. Once the gorillas are located, you will spend an hour observing the chimpanzees in their natural habitat. After the trekking experience, you will return to the lodge for lunch.
After lunch, you will enjoy the canopy walk which is a suspended bridge that offers panoramic views of the rainforest canopy which is ideal for birdwatching, wildlife viewing and photography. After the canopy walk, you will return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Transfer to Kigali and departure
Wake up at leisure, have breakfast, check out of the hotel and embark on the journey back to Kigali. On arrival, you will have a short Kigali city tour where you will visit places like Kigali genocide memorial museum, kimironko market and art craft shops. After the visit, you will have lunch and then proceed with the journey to the airport for your flight back home.
